Someone at church told me to take a glass of apple cider vinegar and cover it with plastic wrap- then poke some holes in the plastic wrap for the fruit flies to get in, but then they can't get out. Ours ended up in coconut syrup - the kind you see at coffee shops, that we used for hot chocolate. Key word: used. Good luck!
same thing happened to us last month. i killed flies all day and night and they still came in herds. russ found a rotting potato behind our microwave that they were nesting on.
if you put a cut piece of fruit in a jar (like the size of a quarter) and then roll up a piece of paper into a cone and stick it in, they fly down the hole of the cone and then cant get back out.
Payson is overrun by fruit flies, or has been for the past couple of months. I have tried every trick in the book, and here's the most affective:
Get a glass, put a piece of a banana in there and cover it with saran wrap. Then poke tiny holes all over. They will get in, but not out. With the banana, sometimes it takes a few hours for the scent to start calling to them. HAHA! But I have caught (no exaggeration) hundreds of them with this method!

I was just going to tell you the same platic wrap bowl vinegar thing. My mother in law was going it at her house and she caught a million of them...
I thought you just had to get all the rotten stuff out (including all fruit) for a week or so and they'd leave...
eeeek no idea
